While Ethan Coen has reportedly lost interest in making movies, his brother Joel has kept at it, and we finally have our first look at his first non-Coen Brothers film, The Tragedy of Macbeth.

Apple and A24 released a short teaser trailer for the movie, which stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as Lord and Lady Macbeth and stays true to its Shakespearean source material, chronicling the Scottish couple’s murderous power grab and subsequent descent into madness. The black-and-white film will be released in theaters on Dec. 25 and on Apple TV Plus on Jan. 14.

The trailer doesn’t reveal much, relying instead on a series of images — including birds circling above, Macbeth walking through the desert, a crown being lifted from the ground and Lady Macbeth looking worriedly over her shoulder — before we hear a witch’s voice deliver the line, “By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.”

In addition to Washington and McDormand — who took home the Academy Award for Best Actress last year for her role in Nomadland — the cast includes Corey Hawkins (The Walking Dead, In The Heights) as Macduff, Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit) as Lady Macduff, Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter) as King Duncan, Harry Melling (Harry Potter, The Queen’s Gambit) as Malcolm, and Ralph Ineson (The Green Knight) as The Captain.
