38 Percent of Americans Won’t Buy Corona Because of Coronavirus

We should not have to tell you beer has nothing to do with the pandemic

We’ve already been over this: the coronavirus does not have anything to do with Corona beer. This should be common sense — a global pandemic that affects the upper respiratory system with symptoms that include fever, cough and shortness of breath obviously is not simply the result of throwing back a few too many brewskis. Nevertheless, as CNN reports, two new surveys show that Americans are still concerned about the Mexican beer in the wake of the deadly virus.

5W Public Relations polled 737 beer drinkers in America and found that 38 percent said they wouldn’t buy Corona “under any circumstances” because of coronavirus concerns, and another 14 percent said they wouldn’t order a Corona in public. A separate survey from YouGov found that consumers’ intent to purchase Corona dropped to its lowest levels in two years.

Constellation Brands, which owns Corona, said in a statement that they’re confident that customers “understand there is no link between the virus and our business.”

“Sales of Corona remain very strong and we appreciate the continued support from our fans,” Constellation Brands spokesperson Stephanie McGuane told CNN. “Our advertising with Corona is consistent with the campaign we have been running for the last 30 years and is based off strong consumer sentiment.”
