Beatles great Paul McCartney is taking his talents to Broadway.

That’s according to a report from Variety, which said McCartney has already written the score for a Broadway musical version of the 1946 holiday classic, It’s a Wonderful Life.

The legendary musician — who recently wrapped up his latest tour by bringing friend and former bandmate Ringo Starr onto the stage at Dodger Stadium — has been working on the upcoming Broadway show with writer Lee Hall, according to Variety. Hall is known for bringing Billy Elliot to the stage and for writing the screenplay for Rocketman.

“Writing a musical is not something that had ever really appealed to me,” McCartney in a statement. But Bill and I met up with Lee Hall and had a chat and I found myself thinking this could be interesting and fun. It’s A Wonderful Life is a universal story we can all relate to.”

New York Post reporter Johnny Oleksinski got a preview of the music McCartney has recorded for the show so far and wrote that the icon “segues easily into the musical theater style, while still giving his diehard fans that soulful McCartney sound.”

“On the CD, the singer performs every role from George Bailey to Mr. Potter and even tries his hand at acting,” Oleksinski continued. “The more than 10 finished songs sound like a bona fide lost Beatles album.”

The show will have a U.K. debut in “late 2020,” according to Variety, before making the journey across the pond to Broadway.
