Did the Academy Move Too Fast in Banning Harvey Weinstein?

Oscar voting body set a precedent and now it struggles to determine others' fates.

Get them rewrite! Sources inside the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences told the New York Post’s Page Six that they are having second thoughts at the speed at which the body booted out Harvey Weinstein in October after a barrage of horrific sexual misconduct allegations. The internal problem, according to the report, is that a successive wave of other accused sexual predators has left the group unsure of how to handle other individual cases including Kevin Spacey and Brett Ratner. In short, they believe a rushed reaction to an unprecedented case set a precedent that may not always fit.

“[We] can’t regret [kicking out Harvey] because [we] didn’t really have a choice,” a male member of AMPAS’ board of governors told the gossip column. “Some members were quite vehement. But [we] didn’t have time to really weigh out the repercussions.”
