This 1920s Schooner Oyster Boat Will Win Your Summer

Best take advantage: with one of the season’s greatest delicacies — oysters — and a view that fits the bill.

Thankfully, the fine folks over at Grand Banks have delivered two new destinations for doing just that: Pilot and Island Oyster.

The first, Island Oyster, is tucked away over on Governor’s Island. It’s worth the jaunt. Because 32,000 square feet of unobstructed New York Harbor and downtown Manhattan views ain’t a shabby way to spend the evening. Especially with a serving of 12 different East Coast oysters on the menu followed by a Black Angus burger.

And at the other hot spot, Pilot, you’re in for something quite special. It’s a revamped 1920s racing schooner docked over at Pier 6 in Brooklyn. Helmed by the renowned Kerry Heffernan, you’re in for hits like scallop ceviche with sweet peppers, citrus, habanero and coconut drizzle and a must-have soft shell crab po’ boy. See also: oysters. That ship you’re kicking back on, by the way, was once the longest serving pilot ship in American history. So, do yourself a solid and saddle up to the 36-seat marble and mahogany bar on the water’s edge. Order yourself a “Make It Rain” with tequila, Aperol, elderflower, liqueur and lime.
