Would You Drive a Classic Porsche Impostor?

They may not be real, but they're still spectacular

If you have a Porsche Speedster, good for you. Call me.

Personally, I don’t have one. And, in non-shocking news, I want one.

Turns out so does the fella to my left, the fella to my right, my doctor, my butcher and pretty much any swingin’ dick that walks through the door.

Thanks to Stärke, that just might be possible … ish. The Scottsdale, Arizona-based makers have just unveiled their darling replica Speedster.

See here:

True, it’s built off of a Boxster. So you’ll need to start there. But they will accept any Boxster built between 1998 and 2012.

Stärke then strips the bejeezus out of ‘em and fits each number for all-new, gentle, nostalgic panels. Add in those eye candy headlights and — boom, baby! — you have your snuck-through-the-back-door Speedster at the ready.

The job will run one in the $60k range, and does not include the donor car. (You wish.) If you’re looking for a little more love — and to drop a little more coin — they also have Speedster Outlaw and Speedster Carbon Fiber Outlaw makes available. The first is good for some contemporary styling flourishes, a new exhaust and a Bilstein adjustable coilover add-on. The second option is for all intents and purposes the same as the Outlaw, but it’s sporting panels made of carbon fiber and hiding a 375-horsepower, 3.7-liter engine.

The Outlaw starts at about $80k, while the Carbon Fiber joint will cost $150k minimum.

That’s still pennies compared to what you’ll pay for an original.
