The Porschiest Collection of Porsches Ever Is Up for Auction

Take your pick of 11 extremely rare Porsche 964s

Ah, the early ‘90s.

No one knew what Bitcoin was and Donald Trump was near-bankrupt. Simpler times, then.

It was also a time when Porsche produced the 964, a version of the 911. If you’re a fan, you’ll be interested in an 11-pack of Porsche 964s debuting at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island auction.

Appropriated dubbed The 964 Collection, the grouping of 11 964s (and a single 930) includes a 1993 Carrera RS 3.8 valued at up to $1.5 million, a Turbo S “Leichtbau” that could fetch as much as $1.2 million and a RSR 3.8 worth up to $1.4 million. The remaining models are all expected to bring in under a million clams.

One of the reasons why some of these models — the majority of which are ‘93 or older — are hitting the block is that they are no longer affected by U.S. Department of Transportation import rules requiring they comply with safety regulations.

“What’s on the rise in Porsche circles now are cars of exceptional rarity and condition, and this gentleman had the foresight to get all that early on,” Sotheby’s specialist Alexander Weaver told Robb Report. “For most of these cars, which were offered in Europe or Japan, people here [in the U.S.] didn’t know what they were unless they really knew what to look for. Simply put, very limited 964s are now some of the hottest cars you can buy.”
