Jon Stewart will release his first stand-up comedy special in 21 years on HBO, according to CNN. HBO made the announcement that the former Daily Show host will appear in two upcoming specials, but did not say when they will air.
In 2015, Stewart stepped down from his role as the host of Comedy Central’s news parody show after 16 years. There has been much speculation ever since about what his next move will be. He and HBO had announced they were collaborating on a short-form animated series, but it was later scrapped due to “technical issues,” CNN reports.
Stewart is an executive producer on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show. He has sporadically made appearances on the show.
The last time Stewart performed stand-up comedy was in 1996 for HBO’s “Jon Stewart: Unleavened.”
