Italian sportswear meets preppy American style in the new Brooks Brothers and Fila collaboration. The limited-edition collection from the two brands marries their respective aesthetics, melding the former’s classic style with the latter’s athletic silhouettes.The result is a mixture of streetwear and elevated performance pieces alongside more tailored styles (think seersucker pants and matching blazers), all rendered in Fila’s trademark red, white and blue coloring (which works perfectly for Brooks Brothers’ American roots) and co-branded logos, pushing the boundaries of what’s typically expected from both brands.
What might seem like an unlikely partnership actually makes perfect sense seeing as how the two brands are both long-time sponsors of the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, their mutual support and admiration of the sport factoring heavily into the process here. Tennis-inspired designs like sporty shorts and a pinstriped polo are appropriate enough for wear both on and off the court, while pieces like the Lawn Tennis Sweater and Vest hearken back to stylings of the ’70s, better suited for channeling an off-duty Björn Borg.
The collection even includes two Fila sneakers, the original LX tennis shoe and the chunkier Trigate sneaker, so you can really go all out in a head-to-toe look.
