Jim Carrey is known for his off-beat comedy, but at a New York Fashion Week event on Friday, he gave a very weird interview to E! News host Catt Sadler.

At the Harper’s Bazaar party celebrating “Icons” by Carine Roitfeld, the 55-year-old actor began the interview by circling around Sadler before telling her that there is “no meaning to any of this,” referring to the event.

US Weekly writes that Carrey continues by saying, “So I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join and here I am. You got to admit, it’s completely meaningless.”

Sadler counters by saying that the party is celebrating icons. Carrey says that’s just the “absolute lowest aiming possibility we could come up with.” While his remarks about the meaninglessness of these events might be surprising, the interview got even weirder from there, when he told Sadler that he doesn’t “believe she exists,” and then broke into a James Brown impression.

He then referenced a 2014 commencement speech he gave Maharishi University of Management in Iowa, writes US Weekly, by saying “I don’t believe in personalities. I believe that peace lies beyond personalities, beyond invention and disguise, beyond the red ‘S’ you wear on your chest, that makes bullets bounce off.”

Sadler, who looks pretty shocked by the whole thing, tried to change the subject to Carrey’s suit, which was bright blue and patterned. He wasn’t having it though, and responded, “I didn’t get dressed up. There is no me. There’s just things happening. It’s not our world … we don’t matter.”

US Weekly writes that this isn’t the first time Carrey has talked about the relevance of humans. As a guest in Michael Moore’s Broadway show, The Terms of my Surrender, he said: “human beings don’t matter.”
