U.S. Sen. Al Franken, a Democrat from Minnesota, and David Letterman teamed up this week to talk climate change (and the former Late Show host’s burly beard) on Boiling the Frog, a new web series co-produced by Funny or Die and Years of Living Dangerously.

“Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate change is real,” Franken tells viewers in the first of six videos. “What you and I need to do is prove that we’re organized enough and persistent enough and passionate enough to force Washington to act.”

Letterman sits down with Franken for the remaining five in the series. Letterman, who visited India for the National Geographic docuseries Years of Living Dangerously, asserts early on that he’s frustrated with Washington’s inaction on climate change, and wants to help secure the future for his young son.

“It just seems to me that whoever is the leader in fighting climate change, then becomes the leader of the world,” Letterman tells Franken. “So why aren’t the Republicans motivated by that?”
