Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: penny loafers with vintage pinup artwork, aesthetically pleasing knives from Our Place and a pool float designed to look like In-n-Out’s fry boats.

Duke & Dexter

Duke & Dexter x Playboy

British handmade footwear mavens Duke & Dexter are known for crafting the sort of cheeky kicks that stand out in a crowd, and their latest effort in collaboration with Playboy is the perfect example of that — the capsule collection features seven different shoe styles with a deliciously retro vibe, including velvet slippers with an all-over bunny print, a slipper done up in old Playboy covers, and two-tone penny loafers with vintage pinup artwork. If you’re really looking to channel your inner Hef, there’s a silk robe on offer as well.

A24

A24 Blue Widescreen Beach Towel

Let everyone know you’re a film buff even while hitting up the beach and pool thanks to A24’s new beach towel, printed to look like a widescreen aspect ratio. Made from a custom-dyed terry loop fabric, the towel is just as useful as it is fun, it’s oversized design perfect for enveloping yourself post-dip or spreading out on the sand, all while making you feel like the star of your own movie.

Undone

UNDONE x STAPLE Yin-Yang Watch

After a much-ballyhooed recent collab on an überlimited run of custom Eames chairs, hype culture statesman Jeff Staple is at it again with a new timepiece created in partnership with Hong Kong watchmakers UNDONE. The 40mm stainless steel case houses a Japanese TMI NH35A Automatic Winding Mechanism, while the two-tone black-and-white dial features the Staple Pigeon motif reworked into a slick take on Yin-Yang with a pop of color via “Pigeon Pink” hands. The bezel is etched with Staple’s motto “A Positive Social Contagion,” and the clear caseback also features the iconic Staple Pigeon in tinted glass. Four different straps are available, including a black nylon nato strap, black perforated leather, a black stainless steel bracelet, and a limited edition nato strap with the Staple Pigeon logo. If these are anything like Staple’s other collabs, our advice is to get while the gettin’s good.

In-n-Out

In-n-Out Fry Boat Pool Float

Designed to look like the red-and-white paper boats In-N-Out uses to serve its fries, this pool float can hold either an insane amount of fries or one full-sized human being. While the top of the fry boat has the In-N-Out logo on it, as well as some messaging about the burger chain’s fries, the bottom features Proverbs 24:16 … “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.” Whatever. Just don’t eat our fries.

Instant Air Purifier

From the makers of Instant Pot (!) comes the Instant Air Purifier, which utilizes a 3-in-1 filtration system (a HEPA-13 filter, a carbon filter layer to help reduce unpleasant odors and an antimicrobial coating to prevent bacterial growth on the filter and filter degradation) along with plasma ion technology to “remove 99.9% of the virus that causes Covid-19” along with 99.97% of pollen, smoke, dust, dander and other allergens. You can read more about the purifier here.

Dad Grass

Mom Grass Hemp CBG Preroll

You’ve heard of Dad Grass. Now it’s time to meet Mom Grass. For those unfamiliar with CBG, or cannabigerol, it’s “the mother of all cannabinoids” and the precursor to the more well-known THC and CBD. While studies for the compound are still in the early stages, the science so far indicates that it helps one to become calm and grounded with a full-body high, helping to soothe you much like a warm embrace from your mom would, assuming your mom’s not cold and emotionally withholding.

July

July Carry-On Light

Now up for pre-order (with orders starting in, natch, July), this Aussie luggage brand says they want to bring joy to travelers. Not sure about joy, but there are plenty of bag and color options here, along with a lifetime warranty, free shipping, free returns and 100-day trials on all products. So call it happy competence! Plus, the Carry-On Light is apparently the lightest double wheel carry-on in the world, at just under four pounds.

The Negroni: A Love Affair with a Classic Cocktail by Matt Hranek

It’s been almost two years since we wrote about the Negroni’s heyday in the U.S., which just so happened to be on the occasion of the cocktail’s centennial. That means it’s been two years since bon vivant Matt Hranek told us he was working on a book about the irresistibly bitter tipple. Just in time for peak Negroni season, the gorgeous tome has arrived, full of history, personal opinions and some recipe variations to keep things interesting all summer.

Oris

Oris Hölstein Edition 2021

This is the second Hölstein Edition watch from Oris, a limited-edition release named after the Swiss town they’ve called home since 1904. The first one was a lot to handle: a dive watch done up almost entirely in bronze, except for the gold-plated panda dial, with the Oris Bear on the back. The only carryover here is the caseback, and the fact that it’s limited to 250 pieces. This time they started with their Big Crown pilot’s watch, but then went for subtlety rather than bombast. But it’s not just about good looks and exclusivity; the watch is also the first to house a new automatic movement from the brand.

KOIO

KOIO x Joe Jonas Retro Runner

For their first collaboration, luxury footwear brand KOIO enlisted the help of Joe Jonas, and together, they came up with a 1980s-themed running shoe with a track-style silhouette and an iridescent upper that was inspired by the ‘82 sci-fi flick Tron. Designed in NYC and handcrafted in Italy with sustainability in mind, the shoe contains some recycled materials but also features the gold-level suedes and leathers KOIO is known for.

Our Place

Our Place Everyday Chef’s Knife

The cookware brand behind the viral Always Pan is getting into the knife (and cutting board) game. Their new releases include a chef’s knife, serrated knife and paring knife, as well as an American black walnut wood cutting board with a sloped design to keep your countertops juice-free. The blades are made of German stainless steel and the handles, of course, come in trendy colors named things like Steam, Spice, Blue Salt and Char.

Jupiter

Jupiter x Fellow Barber “Flake No More”

Scalp health brand Jupiter, known for its salon-quality formulas fighting scalp discomfort and pesky dandruff, has partnered with popular NYC, LA and SF-based barbershop Fellow Barber for a new scalp facial service called “Flake No More.” The service will use Jupiter’s luxurious Purifying Mask plus a relaxing wash and rinse using the brand’s Balancing Shampoo and Nourishing Conditioner, allowing you to have a nice “Treat Yourself” moment while addressing a not-so-nice issue. And even if you’re not in proximity to a Fellow Barber, you can still care for your scalp and manage any flakiness by shopping Jupiter’s line of elevated scalp and haircare products.
