So here’s a cool deal.
To celebrate National Ice Cream Day (July 17th: it’s a Sunday … get it?), artisanal ice cream maker Three Twins is offering a deliverable dessert service that goes beyond the truck. Their pitch: Founder Neal Gottlieb will hand-deliver 100 pints of organic ice cream sweetness anywhere you want within 100 miles of a U.S. airport “regularly serviced by a commercial airline.”
That’s the small-sized deal, and it goes for $3,333. You’ll also get two hours of scooping service, a laser-etched scooper and $333.33 toward a land trust of your choice. Plus: a signed first edition of Gottlieb’s “riveting and emotional unauthorized autobiography” Portrait of the Ice Cream Maker as a Young Man.
(Worth a read. We’ve met Gottlieb. He’s a character. He wears amazing ice cream pants. And in person, he’ll regale you with stories from his time on Survivor.)
But let’s get to the big scoop: Three Twins is also offering a $60,000 journey called “The World’s More Expensive Most Expensive Ice Cream Sundae,” wherein Gottlieb will meet you at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and hand-churn for you a batch of ice cream. With glacial ice.
Included in that sweet African trek: first-class airfare to Tanzania, five-star accommodations, a guided climb, souvenir T-shirt (hooray?) and a five-figure contribution to an African environmental non-profit.
