Has George R.R. Martin Secretly Completed ‘Game of Thrones’ Books?

Looking into all the supporting evidence ahead of this Sunday's HBO premiere.

The general feeling consensus among Game of Thrones fans is that what you’re seeing unfold on HBO—which has strayed quite a bit from the original book series—will likely be as close to a proper conclusion to the epic A Song of Fire and Ice as you’ll get.

That’s because George R.R. Martin is only getting older, busier, and seemingly farther away from his goal of finishing all seven novels in the series (five of which have been completed to date).

At least, that’s what we’ve all been led to believe, proffers Vanity Fair. Could it be that Martin has presented his editors with two more completed manuscripts? Scuttlebutt earlier in the year pointed to a big surprise taking place on the night of the premiere (i.e. this Sunday, July 16).

Another piece of evidence points to HBO’s evasiveness in announcing the moderator for the Game of Thrones panel at this year’s San Diego ComicCon. Vanity Fair wonders out loud if it could be Martin, with a major announcement on his agenda.

The last piece of evidence? From Martin himself, blogging about the amount of work he’s been doing and how it’s been keeping him from reading and watching movies. Could this mean that he’s been typing away on books six and seven? It seems we know even less than John Snow.
