Regnery Publishing, a company that publishes books by Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin, Ann Coulter, and other conservative authors, will no longer recognize the New York Times‘ accounting of book sales. This means that its writers can no longer claim to be “New York Times best-selling authors.”

According to the Associated PressRegnery says the Times’ list gives priority to liberal books. The company is unhappy its book, The Big Lie: Exposing the Nazi Roots of the American Left is ranked No. 7 on the list when it is ranked No. 1 on a different organization’s list. Regnery also says that another one of its books, No Go Zones: How Sharia Law is Coming to a Neighborhood Near You, is ranked lower than it should be.

The Times responded by saying conservative authors have been routinely featured and ranked highly on the best-seller list, writes AP.

AP writes that book sales are an inexact science. Nielsen BookScan is the company that Renergy cites as ranking its book higher. They count print sales in stores, representing about 85 percent of the market. The Times claims its list is based on “surveys of thousands of booksellers.”

Besides not being allowed to use the Times’ rankings to promote themselves, the publishing company’s writers will no longer get bonuses tied to their books appearing on the newspaper’s list.
