Skiing in Aspen Will Never Be This Cheap Again

Skiing in Colorado is rarely a bargain, which is why this upcoming deal from Aspen Snowmass is so stellar.

In a destination famous for its outsize excess, discounts are few and far between. Except, this season, on the slopes — where a single-day lift pass will be just a jaw-dropping $6.50. That is, not coincidentally, the cost of a lift ticket on opening day in December 1967.

Put it on your calendar for December 15 — 49 years and 363 days after the resort opened for business.

Much has changed since 1967, when the top song was “To Sir With Love” and the best-selling movie was The Graduate (followed by The Jungle Book). Not least among them: the average price of a Rocky Mountain lift ticket, which, at Aspen, will hover around $150 for the upcoming season.

Attendees will get more than just the lift ticket: There’ll be celebrations to mark the anniversary across the resort, including a “retro party” and fireworks.
