Due to concerns about the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, the NBA is considering moving some league games to cities that have not yet been infected by the virus.
Another option the league is discussing is eliminating fans from buildings for games or moving games to neutral cities that are uninfected but don’t have an NBA team.
The league has also discussed suspending game operations for a period of time, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Some decisions about the situation may be reached when the NBA’s board of governors communicates with the commissioner’s office during a Wednesday conference call. Additional calls with team presidents and general managers are set for Thursday.
Like the NHL and MLS and MLB, the NBA has already eliminated media members from locker rooms as a temporary measure in the wake of the outbreak.
Yesterday, the Ivy League announced that its conference tournament before the annual NCAA basketball tourney was canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
In the NHL, it appears the San Jose Sharks will be playing their upcoming home games in an empty arena after Santa Clara County banned mass gatherings for three weeks due to the coronavirus.
Based on how things seem to be trending in the world of sports, it seems likely that more cancelations are on the way.
