In the dead of winter, it can be hard to think of anything beyond slushy trudges to work and bone-chilling winds. Sure, you might want to buy a new puffer or some heavy boots, but linen pants? Uniqlo U — the venerated bi-annual “essentials with a point of view” offshoot of Japanese giants Uniqlo — dares you to look past soggy socks and dreary days to a brighter, pastel-colored future.

In longstanding partnership with Christophe Lemaire of the eponymous French label Lemaire, Uniqlo U Spring/Summer 2022, despite it’s humble retail origins, presents a similar feel to designer collections seen in Paris and Milan last week. Big button-downs and wide-fit pants dominate the look book, a trend we’ve seen play out in full on the runway this year.

Ideated and created in the UNIQLO atelier à la France, the capsule zeroes in on “versatility and practical refinement” for the warmer months, full of easy silhouettes and flexible pieces. Uniqlo’s high-quality linen and AIRism tech feature heavily, as does a slew of Lemaire-championed colors, like olive and taro purple.

The collection, in Lemaire’s words, is about “creating functional, universal, essential pieces that free movement, are designed to last and bring solutions to everyday life.”

The capsule leans on tried at true styles in gentle pastels and easy fits; The Oversized Hooded Blouson ($99.90, seen above) and Relaxed Fit Tailored Jacket ($89.90) both lean into relaxed tailoring that Lemaire is so fond of, with the Wide-Fit Bakers Pant ($59.90) following suit.

Spring/Summer 2022 releases February 24th on Uniqlo. Prices range from $12.90 to $149.90, and you can find the collection at Uniqlo and in-stores. Stave off those winter blues and start thinking about what you’re going to add to your spring wardrobe.
