Filson and the U.S. Forest Service have a long and storied history that goes back to the 1920s, but in recent years they’ve been championing the organization’s mascot for the benefit of outdoorsmen and streetwear collectors alike. And just in time for whatever summer 2020 holds, they’ve dropped a new Smokey Bear collection. (Yes, it’s Smokey Bear with an “e” and no “the,” capeesh?)
We understand that cartoon characters may not be part of your menswear aesthetic, but for Smokey we’ll always make an exception. Whichever side of the spectrum you stand on, Filson has an appropriate addition to your summer wardrobe.
Are you teaching your kids about Smokey and not normally into bear-adorned clothing yourself? Grab the button-up Camp Shirt. Consider yourself a little more adventurous? Pick up the flame-colored tee with Guy Fieri-esque graphics on the sleeves. Somewhere in the middle? The service green Pocket T-Shirt is eminently layerable. And since we are still dealing with a pandemic, you’ll want to grab one of the bandanas on offer, both for their fire safety tips and their ability to function as a face mask.
If none of the new pieces are speaking to you, there are a few left from previous collections, including this mushroom-colored long-sleeve with an old-school Smokey on the back that I personally own and still reach for often.
