The 10th time was the charm for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.
For the first time in 10 career starts on Monday Night Football, Cousins came out a winner as the Vikings were able to edge the Bears 19-13 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Though he wasn’t spectacular, Cousins threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns in the win, both of them going to Adam Thielen. Minnesota rookie wideout Justin Jefferson caught eight passes for 135 yards in the victory.
“Great to get a win,” Cousins said following the victory. “We’ll try to keep building on it now, and it’ll be so important to keep stringing these together if we can. That’s really what the rest of the season will be all about.”
The Vikings, who were able to overcome a 104-yard kickoff return by Chicago’s Cordarrelle Patterson, have won three in a row and now sit at 4-5 on the season. They also snapped a four-game losing streak against the Bears (5-5), who have lost four in a row and could be without quarterback Nick Foles after he was carted off the field with a lower-body injury.
Even when Foles was healthy, it was an ugly game for Chicago on offense as the Bears managed just 149 yards, their lowest total since they had 147 against San Francisco in December of 2017. Foles threw for 106 yards and an interception in the defeat.
“We need to make sure that we’re really honestly going back now and saying OK, what’s going on, where are we at now that we have some time to really see,” said Bears coach Matt Nagy.
Chicago will go on the bye in Week 11 before returning for a pivotal game with Green Bay in Week 12. The Vikings will host Dallas on Sunday.
