The NFL’s most dysfunctional football family is finally getting their own TV show.
In a move that many predicted, HBO has selected the Jon Gruden-led Oakland Raiders for the upcoming season of their behind-the-scenes show Hard Knocks.
"Everybody wants to be a Raider. Now they’ll find out what it takes to become one."

The Raiders, who went 4-12 last season during Gruden’s first season back coaching the team after a lengthy stint in ESPN’s Monday Night Football booth, made a number of big acquisitions this offseason including adding wide receiver Antonio Brown via trade and massive left tackle Trent Brown via free agency.
Under the leadership of owner Mark Davis, the Raiders have been somewhat of a mess, and Gruden was brought in at a high cost in order to help right the ship. Last season at least, that didn’t happen.
This season could offer more of the same as the team showed signs of being in disarray before the NFL draft, sending all their scouts home beforehand because of concerns team secrets would be leaked.
“Since the AFL-NFL merger, the Raiders have been a part of some of the most iconic moments in League history,” NFL Films senior executive Ross Ketover said in a release. “We at NFL Films have been thrilled and honored to showcase the mythology of the Raiders from the Holy Roller, Sea of Hands, Ghost to the Post all the way to today with Coach Gruden and this unbelievable cast of players and coaches. Needless to say, we’re very much looking forward to this season of Hard Knocks.”
The new season of Hard Knocks will debut on August 6th on HBO.
