After recently poaching both Adam Amin and Emmanuel Acho from ESPN, Fox Sports is reportedly eyeing another rising star at The Worldwide Leader.
According to The New York Post, Fox Sports is targeting former NFL player Jonathan Vilma as its next hire.
The 38-year-old Vilma is currently a college football studio analyst on ABC’s top show on Saturday but, with the status of NCAA athletics up in the air, his role for the upcoming season seems uncertain.
Should Vilma make the move to Fox, it’s possible he could team with NFL play-by-play man Kenny Albert in the booth as his former partner, ex-NFL player Ronde Barber, did not have his contract renewed by the network. Fox also has an opening after another former NFL player, Charles Davis, left to take a job at CBS.
Vilma, who goes by Jon now, played 10 seasons in the NFL with the Jets and Saints and won Super Bowl XLIV while playing for New Orleans.
Internally, Fox is also looking to find a way to re-sign Skip Bayless, whose contract is up in September. Due to the economic fallout from the pandemic, some expect the 68-year-old will have to take an equal salary or possibly even less money to remain with the network.
ESPN afternoon radio personality Will Cain will also reportedly be leaving ESPN for a role at Fox News.
