Jace Prescott, one of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s older brothers, died Thursday morning at the age of 31 from unknown causes. Jason Pugh, assistant athletic director for media relations at Northwestern State, where Jace played on the offensive line from 2008-10, confirmed the death.
Condolences and prayers to the family of @NSUDemonsFB alum Jace Prescott. Great guy, humble and athletic yet a brute. Remember at Texas State, after they kicked a FG in OT, we ran the ball six straight times behind Jace and our OT Booker to win the game. #RIP pic.twitter.com/PY3LFHsQav

“He was a great kid who dominated games,” Jace Prescott’s high school football coach, Rodney Guin, told USA Today. “He was a pleasure to coach — as were all the Prescott boys.”
Jace, Dak and their oldest brother Tad were a close-knit bunch and co-starred in a Campbell’s Chunky Soup commercial together last summer that paid tribute to their mother, Peggy, who died from colon cancer in 2013.
In 2013, 26-year-old Dak was attending Mississippi State University, and losing his mother has been one of the storylines of his NFL career with the Cowboys.
“We are so saddened that Dak has lost his brother,” Dallas owner Jerry Jones said late on Thursday. “We want him to help him get through this time. Whatever we can do to help him get through this tough time. When you’re young, and Dak is young, death is really hard to understand to think about or live with. I have a particular sensitivity to players when they have a tragedy.”
The Cowboys and their star quarterback are in the midst of contract negotiations that could result in him becoming the highest-paid quarterback n the NFL — until Patrick Mahomes gets his new deal.
On Thursday night, Jones and the Cowboys selected wide receiver CeeDee Lamb out of Oklahoma with their first-round pick in the NFL draft.
