Steve McQueen’s ‘Le Mans’ Suit Would Make One Helluva Halloween Costume

The iconic getup hits the auction block this December

Steve McQueen once said, “I’m not sure whether I’m an actor who races or a racer who acts.”

Given that, we’re not sure if his racing suit and helmet from Le Mans count as movie or motorsports memorabilia. But either way, they’d be a great addition to your closet.

A three-piece lot (Hinchman jacket, pants and helmet) that was previously sold for just short of a million bucks, McQueen’s original duds from his ‘71 motoring masterpiece are up for auction once again as part of an RM Sotheby’s sale. Joining other pieces of Le Mans memorabilia that have recently been offered at auction — like McQueen’s blue-and-orange Porsche 917 — the cream-colored costume is one of three that were worn during film that still exist.

Unfortunately, the auction isn’t taking place until the beginning of December, so your hopes of donning it on Halloween are out. But there’s always next year.
