The Great Granddaddy of Leather Wallets

Headlands Handmade drops an heirloom-quality wallet

  • 26 May 2015

We’d wager a bet you still use some things your grandfather once owned.

And then we’d offer double-or-nothing that at least one of those things is made of leather.

Because well-made leather? It doesn’t know when to quit.

For a piece of leather you’ll be passing down to your progeny, try the new Vernon Bill Fold by Dana Point leathersmith Headlands Handmade.

Founder Scott Goodman based the design on a billfold used by his great grandfather Vernon Goodman.

Vernon lived in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, and his wallet trickled down the family tree until it hit Scott’s hands.

You’ll notice that the stitching on the original wraps around the outside. That’s how they made ‘em back then.

Now it goes on the inside, which is tidier and more durable.

The current model also has a Native American-style stamp across the top flap. Inside: an ID window, card slots and a pocket for your folding money.

Headlands has also branched out with these new leather planters, a smart desk accessory that will, like the wallet, age well over time.

All the materials are made in America and take about 5-10 days to construct, so order quickly if you’re thinking about gifting one for Father’s Day.

Someday, you’ll remember him by it.
