Finding the perfect T-shirt is a journey that often feels Homeric.
You get the perfect length ... but damn if the sleeves aren’t right.
The fabric finally breaks-in to perfect softness ... but now it's a little too ragged to be churched up.
As silly as it sounds, a tailored tee does the job. And Sene, a slick new men’s store on La Brea, is doing that — along with perfect professional duds for work, weddings and nights out. The store, with its flair for Scandinavian and Japanese minimalism, offers customers whiskey to break the ice. Then you’re ushered to the back for a fitting, which they keep digitized so you can order re-ups online — convenience never goes out of style.
We asked CEO Ray Li to come up with an ensemble that'll work for any and all nights about town and — for most of us — in the office, too.
Here it is, in five easy pieces.
Sene’s T-shirts are custom made with Japanese cotton in Alabama. You can tailor the length and the sleeve dimensions, but the neck has a slightly larger scoop, which Li says is slightly dressier. They also use a thicker fabric, which gives your tee more texture and gravitas.
The easiest way to dress up a T-shirt in SoCal spring weather is with a vest. Sene’s double breasted vest is cashmere and sold separate from their suits.
The Pocket Square
A pocket square always heightens the mood. They can be folded or bunched in for a more playful look. Sene’s cotton pocket squares are punctuated by hand-stitched contrast thread.
The Field Jacket
If you’ve been watching The Crown then you’ve seen plenty of the English Field Jacket. Sene took that and stripped it down, keeping the patch pockets flush and the cut much shorter and slimmer. Here's it's done in midnight with Japanese cotton. No fussy details and lightweight enough for L.A. nights.
It’s almost the mullet of pants: business up top, party at the bottom. Japanese cotton, though, so you won’t find these at the pawn shop. And yes, you can wear them to the office.
