If you build it, they will come.

True for cornfield diamonds and moldering baseball players.

Also true for motorcycles.

To wit: the Bike Build Off – basically the most unique motorcycle museum you could ever ask for, revving up Saturday at Deus Ex Machina’s shop and café in Venice.

Deus, you may be aware, is the gold standard for the hip minimalist. One Mr. Ryan Reynolds owns one of their bikes, The American.

For the Bike Build Off, the rules are simple: spend the least amount of money to build the most original bike (this gallery of past entries should give you an idea of what to expect).

These bikes will tell stories. Like that of a man who created a Chopper Bobber-inspired hog from the wreckage of his BMW R65, which was “destroyed by a drunk driver” in a hit-and-run.

The event is held simultaneously in Sydney, Milan, Bali and Venice.

The 46 bikes competing in Venice will be critiqued by five judges, among whom is Michael “Woolie” Woolaway, Deus’s stateside motorocycle director.

Ten make the cut to be displayed on Facebook and judged by fans worldwide.

Cruise on down.
