Radio personality and author Garrison Keillor told The Associated Press in an e-mail that he has been fired by Minnesota Public Radio over “allegations of improper behavior,” reports Vanity Fair. Meanwhile, in a separate statement, M.P.R. has said it will stop re-airing episodes of Keillor’s popular radio show, A Prairie Home Companion, and will rename the show.
Keillor has hosted Prairie Home for more than 40 years. The 75-year-old told the AP in an email on Wednesday, saying that he was terminated over “a story that I think is more interesting and more complicated than the version M.P.R. heard,” writes Vanity Fair.
His firing comes just one day after he wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post, saying the idea that fellow Minnesotan Senator Al Franken should resign following sexual harassment allegations is “absurd” and saying “the atrocity it leads to is a code of public deadliness. No kidding,” according to Vanity Fair.
Keillor retired as host of Prairie Home in 2016. In August, he started his 28-city Love and Comedy Tour, which is largely based on his broadcast.
