Silver Star: Park City, Utah. This is the ski-in/ski-out village you’ve been looking for, with luxury condos and cottages located mid-mountain at the base of Park City Mountain Resort’s Silver Star chairlift. And if the kids don’t want to ski, there’s always the heated pool.
Mirror Lake Inn and Resort: Lake Placid, New York. The greatest vertical drop in the East? Check. Based in the Adirondacks, this is where the pros congregate: the Freestyle Skiing World Cup is here in January, the Empire State Winter Games in February.
Chalet Pelerin: Tarentaise, France. Private luxury. Piste and backcountry skiing from custom luxury gurus Eleven, based in the hillside village of Le Miroir. Your group heli-skis by day and enjoys the indoor saltwater lap pool, outdoor hot tubs, private sommeliers and chefs by night.
Whistler Blackcomb: Whistler, British Columbia. Ibiza for powder junkies. The best après spots are all within walking distance from the hills, including a half-dozen nightclubs (try The Savage Beagle), a myriad of slopeside bars and even a thriving live music scene.
Timberline Lodge: Government Camp, Oregon. Best known for its use as the exterior shots for The Shining, the Mt. Hood resort is also a certified National Historic Landmark. Built from nearby timbers and stone during the Great Depression, Timberline is a cozy getaway for powderhounds.
