Warning: Even though it’s later this year, Thanksgiving is still only three weeks away.
In lieu of braving your local grocery store and scouring your family’s old cookbooks for that one stuffing recipe, we say embrace the spirit of the holiday, and share the workload.
One way to cut down on costs and time but still produce a quality meal? Hit up an online food retailer. Your best bet is to look at the same companies where you’d order your high-end steaks, pork and seafood — they all have a poultry section you’ve probably ignored, and most of ‘em are offering Thanksgiving deals and full-meal kits, often at a nice discount.
A few favorites, below:
Omaha Steaks
You can craft your own holiday meal for up to eight people, but the country’s largest meat purveyor also offers an 11-item Thanksgiving feast for $149 (a 34% savings) with free shipping. Plus, they’ll throw in a $30 e-reward card for any orders between now and December 8th, so you’ll have a nice discount for the next holiday.
Snake River Farms
Not a turkey fan? These guys are offering a holiday roast special through Nov. 10 with savings of up to $80 on an array of prime rib roasts, American Wagyu and Kurobuta pork.
ButcherBox
Two words: Free turkey. You’ll have to be a new customer and sign up for a membership to this excellent subscription meat company, but your first box’ll be a 10-14 lbs all-natural turkey
Porter Road
It’s not just turkey — these Kentucky-based meat lovers offer themed boxes based around ham, pork roast and rib roast. You’ll need to make the sides, but their kits offer help; witness the Holiday Turkey Box, which features a pasture-raised turkey, a pound of loose sage sausage for stuffing, 1 lb of pork bacon ends for “zhuzhing up your veggies” and and a pound of ham bacon for hors d’oeuvres, all for $148.
The Herbivorous Butcher
Whether you’re veg-curious or have an eco-conscious kid home from college, you might want to try out this Turkey-Free Feast, which features non-meat variations on stuffed turkey, butternut sausage and meatloaf (and a few sides).
Goldbelly
These gourmet food purveyors offer everything from Cajun Deep Fried Turkey (from Uncle Ray’s in Dallas) to pumpkin pie cheesecake (via Junior’s in Brooklyn), along with turduckens, biscuits and tons of side dishes via some of the most famous restaurants in the country.
Harry & David
