Your SodaStream Can Now Make Wine Only a Grandmother Would Drink

How do you feel about sparkling Riesling from concentrate?

Today I learned that one of SodaStream’s earliest slogans was “Get Busy With the Fizzy,” which is more fun and less bossy than the current “Love Your Water.”

But I’ll reluctantly overlook that — and the obvious water-to-wine jokes — in introducing you to their latest foray into adult beverages, which follows the announcement of a beer-brewing machine and brand-approved cocktail recipes.

Mix one part branded wine mix and five parts sparkling SodaStreamed water, and you have a 10% ABV Riesling that allegedly compares well with Moet & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot — according to 76 of 100 participants of a study conducted … by the brand itself. Color us skeptical.

The Israeli-owned drinks company is only offering this model on its German website for now, but we have to wonder if the countertop real estate in any part of the world isn’t worth a little bit more than this (admittedly Google-translated) copy from their site: “The first Prickelbrause, which you can do comfortably at home without beheading a whole bottle!”

Prost.
