Pamela Anderson Announces Her Own Netflix Documentary

Hulu’s newest hit Pam and Tommy might have been made without Pamela Anderson’s blessing, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t going to tell her side of the story.

In a press release from Netflix, Anderson announced her upcoming documentary with the streaming platform, saying that it will cover “a thousand imperfections, a million misperceptions … I can only surprise you — not a victim, but a survivor and alive to tell the real story.” The documentary has reportedly been in the works for years, with Anderson’s personal journals and footage being included.

That’s a far cry from the situation around the Pam and Tommy miniseries. A showrunner said that when they tried to reach Anderson, “We didn’t get a response, but considering what she’s been through and the time that we were reaching out, that was understandable.” Critics of the Hulu show include Anderson’s long-time friend Courtney Love, who, in a now deleted post, said the show “further caused [Anderson] complex trauma,” adding, “And shame on Lily James whoever the f— she is. #vile,” referencing the actor’s role as Anderson. James also attempted to speak to Anderson during the filming, with no success. Tommy Lee, portrayed by Sebastian Stan in the limited series, said last September that the show being released in 2022 was “a cool story and people need to know. It’s cool. I’m stoked, it’s cool.”

In the fallout from the the couple’s sex tape being released online, Tommy Lee was applauded for his rock-star lifestyle and big dick, while Anderson was slut-shamed in the media, becoming another blonde bimbo for late-night hosts to mock. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1998, after Lee was arrested for spousal abuse. Anderson reportedly told a journalist at the time the tape was released that she was “heartbroken,” saying, “I don’t ever want our kids to see it. Why would anyone ever willingly release something like that?”

Now, a quarter-century later, this new documentary is being heralded by her sons Brandon and Dylan as the “real story,” and includes Brandon Lee as a producer.
