Tim Tebow is being called as a witness in a civil case against a trainer he worked with who is accused of dispensing banned performance-enhancing drugs to athletes.
According to Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today, Tebow is listed as an expected witness in a trial in Arizona next year involving trainer Ian Danney.
Danney, who is also facing a civil lawsuit in California, is accused of injecting Olympic bobsledder Gea Johnson with banned substances. Johnson is seeking damages from Danney for negligence as well as other claims against him, including sexual assault.
Tebow is “expected to testify regarding the Defendants’ illegal activities, to include, but not be limited to: procuring prescription medications and illegal substances to distribute to PEP clients — including those distributed by Danney to Mr. Tebow,” according to a plaintiff’s filing in Arizona state court.
Former NFL player James Harrison and Patrick Arnold, the chemist at the heart of the BALCO doping scandal, are also being called to testify in the case.
Neither Tebow nor Harrison are defendants in the case.
In the California case, Danney stands accused of injecting Oakland Raiders defensive lineman Corey Liuget with a banned growth-hormone peptide without his consent which led to Liuget being suspended by the NFL last year.
Danney, 49, has denied the allegations and is fighting both lawsuits, according to USA Today.
