Colin Kaepernick is planning to add some new pages to his personal playbook — a lot of them, in fact. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has announced he’ll be penning a memoir which will be released in 2020 via his new publishing company, Kaepernick Publishing.

Described as “part political awakening and part memoir,” the new book will “reveal the life experiences” that led Kaepernick “to risk his career as a star NFL Super Bowl quarterback in one silent act of protest,” according to a release. As part of a multi-project deal Kaepernick Publishing has reached with Audible, the audio version of the untitled memoir will be exclusively released via the Amazon-owned audiobook seller.

Though the other projects the companies will partner on are unclear at this time, the goal will be to “elevate Black and Brown voices who can empower future generations.”

“I learned early on that in fighting against systematic oppression, dehumanization and colonization, who controls the narrative shapes the reality of how the world views society,” Kaepernick said in an exclusive interview with USA TODAY Sports. “It controls who’s loved, who’s hated, who’s degraded and who’s celebrated.”

Despite releasing the book, Kaepernick, who has been out of football since 2017 after he protested police brutality against by kneeling during the national anthem, says he still wants to return to the NFL.

“My desire to play football is still there,” Kaepernick said. “I still train five days a week. I’m ready to go, I’m ready for a phone call, tryout, workout at any point in time. I’m still waiting on the owners and their partners to stop running from this situation. So I hope I get a call this offseason. I’ll be looking forward to it.”
