Ferrari just introduced the SP38, a one-off model, in a surprise reveal at their private test track in Fiorano, Italy. Made especially for one of the brand’s “most dedicated customers,” it’s built off the general architecture and running gear of the 488 GTB, so you can take this car on the street or to the track. The body design is inspired by the iconic F40, reports Maxim.
Here’s what Ferrari has to say about the car, according to Maxim: “The all-new bodywork, in a newly conceived three-layer metallic red, marks a radical departure from the language aesthetic of the donor car. The twin-turbo, twin-intercooler set-up of the award-winning 488 GTB inspired the team to reference the mighty F40 as an icon from which to instruct the project’s general direction.”
The car has three transverse slats that slash across the engine cover to evacuate engine heat. The engine cover itself is treated as a flip-up assembly, made of carbon fiber. It also has a substantial rear spoiler, which evokes the famous rear wing of the F40. Powered by the same twin-turbocharged, twin-intercooled 3.9-liter V8 as the 488 GTB, it churns out a whopping 661 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque, reports Maxim.
