A year’s worth of scandals and security breaches has sent young Facebook users running away from the app.
A recent Pew Research Center poll found that 44% of American Facebook users aged 18 to 29 have deleted the app from their phones in the past year. Some admitted to re-downloading it later on, but the last majority were through once the metaphorical cord was cut, CNBC reported.
Another 54% said they adjusted their privacy settings to try and stem the tide of shared data while 42% consider themselves on “a break” with the social media platform.
The report shows that young users are paying attention to the scandals that have rocked the app over the past year or so, including the FBI report that proved Russia used the site to promote false news stories in an attempt to influence the 2016 Presidential election and the improper use of Facebook’s user data by the political research group, Cambridge Analytica.
