Ruby Rose is becoming a superhero. She will be suiting up as the DC hero Batwoman for The CW, reports Variety. The Australian actress will be the first openly gay superhero in a TV series.
The character will make her CW debut in the annual crossover event between four of the network’s DC shows, including The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow and Supergirl. But The CW is also currently developing a series based around the character, whose real name is Kate Kane. Kane, who is armed with a “passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind,” soars around Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to cut out the failing city’s crime. Of course, Kane faces demons of her own as well.
Rose has also starred in Orange Is the New Black, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, John Wick: Chapter 2 and Pitch Perfect 3. From social media, it appears her fans are pretty excited about this new superhero role.
I can’t remember the last time I came to Twitter in the morning & heard good news, but between the Roswell reboot (a few weeks old, I know, but I haven’t been following ComicCon announcements) + Ruby Rose as Batwoman, I’m on a freaking CLOUD ????https://t.co/rtbcbXc5sL
