Never mind all those pretenders on the undercard, the main event of Hollywood’s award season is about to begin. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the 2018 Oscar nominees, and as the drama builds, Vanity Fair is predicting which names will be vying for the film industry’s biggest honors on Sunday, March 4. Among the magazine’s biggest surprises: Tom Hanks would lose out on a best actor nomination for The Post and Get Out will surprise many prognosticators by picking up a best picture nod. The VF experts also predict that Lady Bird‘s Greta Gerwig will notch a best director nomination — avoiding an embarrassing repeat of the Golden Globes’ lack of a female nominee in that category.
