Robert Mueller just got a very odd gift. An anonymous donor to the nonprofit Atlantic White Shark Conservancy paid $2,500 to name a great white shark after Mueller. Mueller is the investigator probing Russian interference in the 2016 election. The donation follows an increase of contributions that shark-related charities have received after the publication of anti-shark comments by President Donald Trump during an interview with an adult film star. According to actress Stormy Daniels, Trump reportedly told he that though he donates to various charities, he would never donate to any charity that helps sharks because he “hopes all the sharks die.” The $2,500 donation level is the highest one listed on AWSC’s donation page and if you pay that much, you get to name the shark. At first, the donor wanted it to be named Trump, but changed their mind and asked for the great white to be dubbed Mueller. This June, a team of researchers from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries will tag a shark with a location tracker. The donor will get a picture of the beast, and then The donor will be sent a photo of the animal and then anyone with a smartphone can follow Mueller the shark as he swims around the Atlantic through an app called SharkTivity that tracks tagged sharks.
