The American garage is a place where great things are born — just ask Amazon and Apple shareholders. And based on the looks of a hobby project that began in Melbourne back in 2013, it appears Australia’s car holes have some skills too.
Meant to be an off-road alternative to the street-ready electric skateboards that were en vogue at the time, the BajaBoard went through many iterations before the current G4 model was created. A sturdy ride that handles like the offspring of a snowboard and a motorbike that serendipitously met on a steamy Outback night, the BajaBoard features an aircraft-grade aluminum chassis equipped with an independent double-wishbone suspension and a set of heavy-duty spring shocks.
Powered by a pair of electric motors mated to a belt-drive transmission and controlled by a wireless remote, the G4 tops out at 31 mph, can climb hills at a 30% grade and run for up to 22 miles on a charge. Capable of supporting 250 pounds, the board charges in three hours and is fully water-resistant. Priced starting at $3,300 (shipping included) the next batch of G4s will ship out next month.
