After winning an Oscar for his role in Moonlight, Mahershala Ali is returning to television.

The actor, who was also nominated for an Emmy for his role on Netflix’s House of Cards, will be playing the lead in the third season of critically acclaimed HBO drama True Detective, per Variety. Ali will portray Arkansas detective Wayne Hays, who’s been tasked with solving a crime in the Ozarks. (Interestingly, Netflix recently released its own drama, Ozark, set in the same region.)

As Variety notes, the show hasn’t even started production and has yet to be given a timetable for the premiere.

Nic Pizzolatto is back as writer/director (with the exception of a single co-write, he’s written all of the series’ episodes). He told Variety: “I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and [cinematographer] Jeremy [Saulnier]….I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”

A third season of True Detective had been rumored for months. Now it’s a reality.
