‘Game of Thrones’ Creators Tackle Alternate Ending to Civil War in Next Series
HBO's series will focus on 'Third American Civil War.'

With all the talk of “fake news,” it’s the perfect time for a television series about bogus American history, don’t you think?
The creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, have been greenlighted by HBO to produce a series called Confederate, which focuses on the lead-up to the Third American Civil War, according to Variety. (Obviously, one that preemptively assumes the U.S. had two post-Abraham Lincoln Civil Wars, and the southern states had successfully seceded from the Union).
At least in this new “world,” the main evil of the pre–Civil War era— slavery—remains legal. And there’s even a Mason-Dixon Demilitarized Zone. (Clearly, the series has nothing to do with GoT.)
Benioff and Weiss told Variety: “We have discussed Confederate for years, originally as a concept for a feature film. But our experience on Thrones has convinced us that no one provides a bigger, better storytelling canvas than HBO.”
The show will begin production after the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.
