Windsurfing Through Hurricane Conditions
On a normal day at the beach, you might see windsurfers dotting the ocean, performing feats not unlike a ballet dancer on the water.
But on a stormy day, with tempest-tossed waters and hurricane-force winds, most windsurfers stay indoors. A notable exception to this is French windsurfer Thomas Traversa, who won the Red Bull Storm Chase championship in hurricane conditions off the coast of Cornwall, U.K. He and other pro windsurfers had been competing in a three-stage competition, which saw them travel from Ireland to Australia and then to the final leg in England. If you were wondering, the wind gusts during Traversa’s Cornwall run were reaching about 80 mph.
