A jazz concert headlined by Woody Allen in Hamburg, Germany, was interrupted Tuesday night by a pair of topless women protesting the molestation allegations that continue to dog the filmmaker.
Allen, who moonlights as a clarinetist with his New Orleans Jazz Band, seemed nonplussed as the protesters stormed the stage and began chanting lines from Dylan Farrow’s 2014 open letter to her father which detailed her account of a childhood destroyed by sexual assault. (Allen has repeatedly denied those allegations, claiming Dylan was coached by her mother, Mia Farrow, with whom he had a very ugly and public divorce.)
The crowd at the Elbphilharmonie concert hall booed the intrusion before security escorted the women out — but the feminists did get an ovation from Dylan Farrow herself.
“I don’t know what people think of me, or what they assume about my life, but I don’t wake up every morning with a devilish grin and tented fingers wondering how I can make Woody Allen’s life miserable,” Farrow later told Salon.
“What I do know is that he escaped justice for what he did to me, and these moments are the equivalent of prison for him.”
Germany’s SHZ Germany’s SHZ reported that Allen issued a short statement calling the Tuesday protest “stupid,” according to Rolling Stone.
