Guest-hosting on Sirius XM’s new Beatles channel yesterday, Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder told a story about the time Beatles great Paul McCartney hit him right in the face…accidentally. According to Vedder, he was talking with Sir Paul, who was telling his own story about the time he provided an unnamed guy with a surprise left of his own. “When he did that, he shot out his left arm as if he was hitting this guy,” recalls Vedder. “And I was standing there, and I got hit!”

Vedder was cool about it, though. He just continued quietly listening to McCartney’s story, but said he was really thinking, “Paul McCartney just hit me in the face and it hurt!”

Vedder remembers even tasting a bit of blood.

Of course, McCartney apologized. But not before Vedder said he swelled up in the days following the happy accident.
