Ever noticed how at a good restaurant everyone’s meals come out piping hot at the same time and wondered to yourself, “What sorcery is this?!”
We’re gonna let you in on a little secret:
Heated. Tables.
And now a four-legged piece of furniture that debuted at Salone del Mobile in Milan earlier this month called the SmartSlab wants to bring that tech to your home … while also cooling your drinks and even doing some light cooking.
Dreamed up by Sweden-based design studio Kram/Weisshaar, the SmartSlab can serve as a cooking surface, drink chiller and plate warmer, and also be wired up with a circuit board to provide Wi-Fi and device-charging capabilities.
The ultra-thin tabletop is made from SapienStone — a nearly unalterable porcelain material that can withstand fire, frost and thermal shock — and its tiled design was created with the assistance of Italian chef Massimo Bottura.

“Massimo loved the idea that you could just work on the surface for the preparation, the cooking, and potentially the eating of the food on one surface,” says Clemens Weisshaar.
Given that Bottura’s restaurant in Modena, Osteria Francescana, has three Michelin stars, we love it too.
