Pirelli Goes ‘More Nude Than Naked’ for 2017 Calendar

Makeup: Out. Clothes: In. And yet, it's as wonderful as ever.

Photographer Peter Lindbergh needed but two hues to bring out the true colors of the 15 women who appear in the 2017 Pirelli Calendar: black and white.

Unlike previous versions of the annual publication (in which supermodels have appeared in — among other states of undress — latex fetish attire), this year’s calendar strives to focus on “sensitivity and emotion” rather than the “perfect bodies” of its subjects.

By showing the 2017 models (Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Rooney Mara and Penelope Cruz among them) sans makeup and in plain clothing, the women “become more nude than naked.”

“I thought it was important to remind everyone that there is a different beauty, more real and truthful and not manipulated by commercial or any other interests,” Lindbergh explains.

Man’s got a point.
