This is a geneaological trip with a twist.

We all have one: a great-aunt or grandpa with a lot of time on their hands and an interest in tracking down your last living relative in Finland, Chile, China or wherever your family came from. (This is, last time we checked, a nation of immigrants.)

DNA Unwrapped is the 21st-century version of that grandpa’s big adventure.

For $149, you’ll get a work-up of your DNA via cheek swab. A report will give you the breakdown of where your family’s from. (The company only looks for ancestry, not medical information — so no need to stress about what it might reveal; services like this can provide the latter, though, if that’s what you’re looking for.) List in hand, DNA Unwrapped’s tour wing, Travel Unwrapped, can create an itinerary based on your background — or, as they put it, a “chance to discover your roots and spread your wings.”

We’re pretty sure own our ancestors, who must have enjoyed those 24 hours of darkness on the Scandinavian permafrost, would tell us to go to Florida … but anyone with twin interests in luxury travel and geneaology should take a close look. Travel Unwrapped’s specialty — like so many high-end bookers these days — is once-in-a-lifetime experiences: private tours of the Sistine Chapel, for example, or castle visits. Maybe it’s a chance to channel the spirits of our serf/peasant relations on the steps of their former oppressors — and promise them that all their hard work paid off in the end (for you, at least).
