With sustainability becoming more and more of a priority for consumers, brands continue to find new ways of limiting the waste they produce in making their products. One such brand that’s mindful of their practices is the Brooklyn-based Quiet Town, makers of shower curtains, towels, bath rugs and more, all locally made.
For their latest project, Quiet Town ventured beyond home goods and partnered with Alex Mill to create a unisex, up-cycled collection dubbed RE:CANVAS and featuring the brand’s Work Jacket and Saturday Short. Each piece is made from scraps of 100% U.S.-made canvas that were remnants from Quiet Town’s line of bathroom accessories (the brand doesn’t throw away any of their leftover fabric) that were then reworked into easy pull-on shorts and chore-esque jackets, each pieced together using mismatched yet cohesive colors. In total, more than 300 pounds of scraps were up-cycled to create 84 pairs of shorts and 158 jackets. They’re classic silhouettes with a twist and, more importantly, they contribute zero waste to landfills.
