First they rolled out this room — a bed right on top of the Swiss Alps. A bizarre but appealing concept.
The same Swiss hotel chain is behind a new concept that seems like an ideal commentary on our very dangerous times: a hotel built inside an old nuclear bunker. Sounds relaxing, doesn’t it?
The latest Null Stern Hotel is a cozy little concept in the city of St. Gallen. With six single beds and four doubles, it can host up to 14 people at a time (maybe a few more in a real emergency).
While it’s not the most conventional hotel, adventurers, history buffs and hardcore survivalists might enjoy taking refuge in the eerie space, built in a converted bunker. Patrick and Frank Riklin started the project in 2008, sprucing up decommissioned bomb shelters originally built at government insistance to stave off Cold War jitters.
A stay at the less-than-luxurious hotel will set you back about thirty dollars a night (a bargain, if it means you get to survive a nuclear apocalypse). Hot water bottles and slippers are provided, to get you through those cold nuclear winters.
